My Favorite: Oil Pulling!

What exactly is oil pulling?

Oil Pulling is nothing new, in fact it is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oil around in your mouth for oral cleansing, detoxifying and overall health purposes. The practice of oil pulling really originated thousands of years ago!

I’ll be honest, at first it was difficult to swish oil in my mouth for an entire 20 minutes. I suggest to begin with 5 minutes ( I put a few drops of YL Peppermint or Thieves) and my favorite place is in the shower! Now I am up to 20 minutes and it is sooooo natural and easy!

Fast forward a year and I oil pull 3-4 days a week and my dental hygienist even noticed!!

Research the benefits and you will be hooked too!

All Natural Bleach!

So let’s state the obvious…..bleach is not good for us! The smell is awful and do we really want it lurking underneath our cabinets?

When I began using oils 3 years ago, my first goal was to replace all cleaning supplies with safer, non-toxic options…..then I discovered Young Living’s Lemon Oil. It’s no secret that lemon can be added to many cleaning supplies. I even add a few drops to my toilets before I have company (busy mom tip…it makes your bathroom smell super fresh even when it isn’t 😉). Try this recipe for your whites when doing laundry! You can even soak your whites for a bit with this solution. Store it in a cabinet (mine is in our laundry room). Put it in a large Glass Mason Jar!

Remember to put it in glass! Citrus oils will break down the Petrochemicals in plastic! When in a hurry just put a couple of drops in your wash load! Shhhh we won’t tell!!(:

A Biblical Look on Essential Oils Day 5

Let’s talk today about a sweet oil, both in its smell and for the sweet benefits it can have on your body.

This oil has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. It is steam distilled from the bark of the Sandalwood tree.

Sandalwood is mentioned several times in the Bible but you will also hear it referred to as  “the aloes”, but the plant is what we call Sandalwood.

Here are some other verses:

-Psalm 45:8
-Numbers 24:6
-John 19:39

Sandalwood is one of the most valuable trees in the world. It takes 40-60 years for the Sandalwood tree’s hardwood to form. It takes 10 years for the sandalwood tree to form hardwood.

Isn’t it so remarkable how much of a processes it is to get the essential oil into a bottle, that we can purchase and use for our own wellness benefits.  The way God has designed these plants to grow and survive still amazes me.

Sandalwood is great for calming, comforting, and relaxing.  It can be a great addition to your perfume, lotion, and shaving cream.  Men can also add it to their aftershave.  It is definitely a universal oil as far as cologne and perfumes go.

Add it to your skin care and you will not be sorry.  Sandalwood is perfect to help support blemishes and aging skin.

Today we are going to take a look at Cypress.  This oil has a strong piney aroma to it, which perfectly matches how powerful it is in so many ways.  You can almost tell just by opening the bottle how powerful this oil can be.

In ancient Egypt Cypress leaves and branches were a source of medicine.

Cypress is mentioned several times in the bible but the most common verse is when God tells Noah to build an ark out of Cypress wood.
Here are some other verses:
-Isaiah 14:8
-Isaiah 44:14

The Island of Cypress is named after the tree.   The custom of planting Cypress trees in Mediterranean cemeteries symbolized life after death.  Today many cemeteries are graced with beautiful Cypress trees. Legend says the cross of Jesus was made of cypress wood and the Greek word Cypress means “live forever.”  Isn’t this amazing?

My favorite uses are
– 5-10 drops in my coffee scrub
– 20 drops in a roller ball to support my legs circulatory system

See you tomorrow when we take a look at Sandalwood!

A Biblical Look at Essential Oils Day 3

Today I would like to take a look at Cedarwood! This oil has a very interesting history, with its forest, woodsy smell, it is not surprising that this oil comes from the bark of cedarwood trees.

Cedarwood was one of the first oils I purchased after the premium starter kit.  I was looking for something to help support relaxation and sleep.  This oil did not disappoint and then I discovered so many other ways this oil could benefit my everyday life.

Let’s first take a look at Cedarwood’s history.

Cedarwood is mentioned 25 times in the Bible and it is mentioned in 8 books.  Here are some of the verses you will find Cedarwood:

-Numbers 19:6
-Numbers 24:6
-2 Samuel 5:11
-2 Samuel 7:2
-2 Samuel 7:7
-1 Kings 4:33
-1 Kings 5:6-10
-1 Kings 9:11
-2 Kings 19:23
-1 Chronicles 22:4
-2 Chronicles 1:15
-2 Chronicles 2:8
-2 Chronicles 9:27
-Ezra 3:7
-Isaiah 41:19
-Ezekiel 17:3
-Ezekiel 17:22-23
-Zechariah 11:2
-Psalm 104:16

King David and King Solomon used cedarwood for the construction of their palaces because of its aromatic oil content which lasts indefinitely.  Solomon also built his temple out of cedarwood.  Solomon, the man who is known for being the wises man in the bible surround himself with this oil.  Let’s think about that…

My favorite use:

-Diffusing at night for peaceful rest
-1 drop of cedarwood with one drop of lavender to my mascara bottle to promote healthy long lashes

Tomorrow we will take a look at Cypress!
